The Rise of Women in the Bank – Breaking the Glass Ceilings

December 2, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Event Navigation

A joint presentation by 1818 Society Gender and WB History Thematic Group and the World Bank Group Library

In his recent address at the 1818 Society 2020 Annual Meetings, President Malpass was happy to report that the WBG top management is now 50/50 gender balanced. This is a long way from the days when there were very few women in management, and the so-called “professional grades”, and when even those women entering the Bank with Masters and PhD degrees had to pass a typing test.

On the occasion of this historic year that marks the centenary of women’s right to vote and the election of the first woman Vice President in the US, the Gender & Development and the History Thematic Groups of the 1818 Society cordially invite you a to a panel discussion on the topic of “Breaking Glass Ceilings”. The webinar will review the history of the status of women at WBG through the eyes and experiences of those who made it happen and some early pioneers that broke through the glass ceilings.

Confirmed Speakers: Sylvia Browne, Marianne Haug, Katherine Marshall, Anette Pedersen, Leticia Obeng, and Ismael Serageldin.
