Social and Environment Thematic Group virtual event

The Social and Environment Thematic Group is organizing this event in honor of Michael Cernea, the first social development specialist to be hired in the World Bank. Michael is known to many as the leading scholar and practitioner on involuntary resettlement, and his work paved the way for social development in the Bank and many other institutions.

Scott Guggenheim and Maritta Koch-Weser have edited a book in Michael’s honor, examining social development initiatives in the Bank and around the globe. The book is available as a free download under the Open Access agreement: Social Development in the World Bank. The session will open with a short video interview which Ede Ijjasz conducted recently. Scott and Maritta will both speak about the book, and answer questions.

Chair: Reidar Kvam, TG co-chair
