A Seminar of the Social & Environmental Thematic Group

In 2015, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights accused the World Bank of treating human rights more like an infectious disease than universal values and obligations. Reidar Kvam, former Senior Manager at IFC and Global Lead at the World Bank, has worked on human rights and development issues since the 1980s. He is currently working as an advisor to the World Bank’s Human Rights and Development Trust Fund. Reidar will discuss how the World Bank Group’s approach to human rights has evolved over the years, and how operations and legal opinions have addressed human rights comparing the approaches in the private sector with those for public sector operations.
