Energy Thematic Group event
A range of ‘Critical Minerals’, such as copper, nickel, lithium, cobalt and various rare earths, have taken on heightened importance for the transition to low carbon energy. These materials are key inputs for the manufacture of climate-friendly technologies such as solar and wind energy and batteries for stationary and mobile applications.
The presentation by Michael Stanley, World Bank Extractives Lead based on Hanoi, will examine the role of Critical Minerals (CM) in the energy transition and the various geological factors underlying their supply. Also covered will be the increasing geo-political concerns regarding concentration and potential physical and economic disruption of CM supply chains, as well as recent measures to counter these trends.
