Iran and the World Bank – the Early Years

July 22, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Event Navigation

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the presentation will be by WebEx only.

Presenter: Nadereh Chamlou (former Senior Advisor, MNA Chief Economist Office) will offer some of the findings from her upcoming book about this early relationship. Iran participated actively in the Bretton Woods Conference and became one of the first signatories of both the IBRD and IMF, whose primary purpose was to speed up post-war reconstruction and foster economic development. Iran was also the second loan applicant to IBRD, but it took twelve years to approve its first project. Why? And, what was the lasting reciprocal significance for Iran and the Bank?

A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
