After several successful hiking weeks in the Cotswolds, Northumberland and Cornwall, the group is planning to walk in the North York Moors, based in Whitby. Like Cornwall, this is an area of great beauty and rich history, it is also a center for UK walking. We will be walking on windswept headlands, wild moorlands, parts of the Coast-to-Coast Path and exploring quaint coastal villages and castles.
The trip is organized by 1818 member, Sandra Hadler, and run by a very well-known UK organization, HF Holidays (they are a cooperative dating back to 1891). HF owns 16 country house hotels in key hiking areas across the UK and organizes hiking groups from them throughout the year. We have booked the 7-day walking tour from their country house, Larpool Hall, a Grade II-listed house (built 1780) in a perfect setting, with beautiful grounds overlooking the Esk Valley and the North Sea. Whitby is a former fishing town, well known for its fish and chips, quaint harbour, the iconic Whitby Abbey and Dracula connections.
There are 2 options:
- Guided Walking: your choice of 3 daily walks – easier, medium, harder (6-13 miles) each led by experienced HF leaders. Bus transportation to/from the walks is included in the price.
- Walking with Sightseeing, 15 people max. – this offers gentle daily walks of 2 ½ -5 miles visiting local historical and cultural sights with an experienced leader; separate transportation.
The brochure price for the week is £1239 per person* and our cost will be £1064 for guided walking and £1114 for walking with sightseeing, single or double. This includes 7 nights lodging, ensuite rooms, guided hiking, transport, 3 (very) full meals a day and evening entertainment. HF requires £200.00 per person to reserve your space. Why so early? HF hiking groups from around the world, book the houses a year or more ahead. We have this year reserved all 25 guest rooms for 1818, with a maximum capacity of 40 guests; 27 repeat walkers with our group are already signed up. There are no single rooms remaining.
