Summary:
In the recent history of the African continent, conflicts are the main cause of the deterioration of living conditions for populations. In the specific case of the Sahel countries, two major facts catch our attention: The sub-region has experienced a significant increase in violent conflicts since 2012; The majority of the economy of these countries is informal. This book examines the complex interactions between informality and conflicts in the Sahel. It poses two fundamental questions: how have the economic and social performances of Sahel countries been affected by the insecure environment in which they operate? And how does the predominance of the informal sector in productive activities and employment affect strategies aimed at mitigating conflicts?
