In Memoriam

David M. Goldberg (1929 – 2021)

David M. Goldberg died on August 24th, 2021 after a 17-year battle with Parkinson’s. He was 92 years old. David was born in Holyhead, Wales, and grew up in Durban, South Africa. He studied Law at Cape Town University, after which he practiced corporate law in South Africa and Israel. In 1970, he moved to the United States to join the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development where he worked for the next 24 years and rose to the position of Deputy General Counsel. He loved his time at the Bank and the many fond relationships and friendships he forged there with colleagues. And his colleagues and friends at the Bank very much reciprocated in kind. He was admired and liked by all he worked with for his great warmth, quiet wisdom, impressive oratory skills, and keen sense of humor. He retired from the World Bank in 1994 and joined the international firm of Clifford Chance, where he practiced for 5 years until retiring from the practice of law in 2000. He spent the last 20 years living with his family in Southern California, enjoying family events, travel, golf, and the southern California weather. David was a lifelong supporter of Israel and an avid student of the Hebrew language. He loved and relished the practice of law but above all this was a dedicated and loving husband, father,
uncle, and brother, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Yona, his two sons, Derek and Roy, and his daughter-in-law, Jane.
