Event Navigation

Hosted by the Gender TG in collaboration with Social & Environment and Economics TGs.

This virtual event will feature Varun Gauri, World Bank Group alumnus and author of the novel For the Blessings of Jupiter and Venus.  Varun will speak about his book and reflect on what it reveals about social norms and mindsets shaping gender roles, agency, and choice, and why these forces matter for advancing gender equality.

Speaker: Varun Gauri was Co-Director of the World Development Report 2015: Mind, Society, and Behavior at the World Bank Group and is currently a scholar at Princeton University, where his work spans development economics, behavioral insights, and moral reasoning in public policy. In his debut novel, Varun turns to fiction to explore how individuals navigate love, marriage, identity, and belonging within powerful social norms.

Discussant: Louise Cord, Economics TG Co-Chair

Moderators: Hana Brixi and Jesko Hentschel, Gender TG Co-chairs
