GREECE: 1818 Society Tour to Crete, October 15 — 28, 2024

Explore the food, archeology, mythology and nature of Crete with a private cultural tour for 1818 Society members.

Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and its historical significance is second to none, ranging from Stone Age seafarers and Neolithic farmers to the mysterious and fascinating Bronze Age civilisation of the Minoans. On this tour, we will explore the island’s renowned Classical cities and the rich remains of the Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman cultures lead us right through to its turbulent 20th century history. We will also find our way off the beaten track to explore many of Crete’s hidden gems and some superb tavernas and family restaurants in historic hill villages where the food is absolutely as local as it can be. We will take in a vast variety of different landscapes and ancient sites, from the island’s coasts, mountains and gorges to the green and fertile plains whose produce we’ll be taking so much enjoyment from.

The tour is complemented by excellent meals in carefully selected restaurants and tavernas, as well as wine tastings from regional vineyards. At night, you will be staying in beautiful surroundings, ranging from high-quality city hotels via an elegant Venetian palazzo to traditional inns in serene mountain villages. We will travel from place to place in an air conditioned coach, and walk around the various sites, villages and vineyards (no hiking required).

Trip Cost. The total tour cost per person is $6,995 on dual occupancy basis. The Single Supplement is $895. The deposit payment required is $950 per person. Final balance payments are due no later than the 6th August 2024.
