A Tear and A Smile: A Love Story

Tear and A Smile: A Love Story by Nwanganga Shields is a love story that helps to break down racial barriers and racial stigmas. Clint is a lawyer in Washington D. C. He stays active and enjoys checking out the different memorials and things to do in the capital. While resting after taking a run in the nice spring weather, he happens to see a young woman he is very attracted to. By chance, he comes across her multiple times over the course of his day and eventually gets to meet her. The two hit it off and a relationship begins. But they each have their own careers which proves to make the courting a challenge, and the fact that he is African American, and she is white draws certain responses from family members further complicating the relationship.
It is both a romance and a very relevant book to the times we are living through where race is not a concern for some but still a major issue for others.
