Webinar on WB Retirees Making a Difference During the COVID-19 Pandemic Crisis

The session will report on how two WBG retiree founded NGOs (India Development Relief Fund and Partnership for Transparency) are making a difference in provision of humanitarian relief and improving governance during the COVID-19 pandemic in several countries as well as Washington DC. We will also learn from the World Bank Community Connections (WBCCC) Team on how the Bank staff and retiree community has supported a number of NGOs in Washington DC area and in Chennai India during the pandemic. The presentations and discussion will focus on how you and other retirees can be engaged in supporting the pandemic response.

Speaker Bios:
Daniel Ritchie is a founder, past President and current Management Team member of the Partnership for Transparency Fund. He worked at the World Bank for 30 years and retired as Country Director for North Africa and Iran in 1997. He serves on the Boards of the Dunstan Wai Foundation providing scholarships to young women in South Sudan and Uganda and the William Budd Scholarship Fund he founded in 2000 providing student scholarships in Kenya. At PTF, he has helped enlist more than 50 World Bank retirees to serve as volunteer Board members, project advisers and Management Team members.

Richard Stern has been President of PTF since January 2014. Richard worked for the World Bank for 30 years. His positions included Vice President of Human Resources, Director for Energy, Industry, Telecommunications and Mining, China Division Chief for finance and energy, Chief Indonesia Programs division and county economist on East Africa. Prior to the Bank, Richard was UN volunteer in Ethiopia. He has a Master’s degree in development economics from the University of Sussex.

Dr. Prem Garg (IDRF) retired from the World bank in 2007 after serving as the Director for the Quality Assurance Group and also in a variety of operational and executive positions for 35 years. He is recognized as a leader in providing innovative approaches to development programs. Prem Garg received his doctorate in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University.

Dr. Vinod Prakash (IDRF) is a retired World Bank economist and the founder of IDRF. He has been working pro bono since 1988 to help alleviate poverty and enable sustainable development in India. He provides strategic oversight to leverage maximum benefits from donor dollars and shapes programs so they address the interlocking needs of the less privileged.

Lindsey Buss (WBCC) is Senior External Affairs Officer for Community Outreach at the World Bank Group, where he oversees philanthropic, volunteer, and a variety of other community activities such as the high school internship program. Annually, the World Bank Group and its staff contribute over $8 million in the Washington, DC region alone. Although most of the World Bank Group’s funding goes to general operating support, they also have an initiative called Measure4Change, which responds to nonprofits’ requests for support around performance measurement and evaluation. Prior to joining the World Bank Group, Lindsey served for nine years as President & CEO of Martha’s Table, a nonprofit in Washington, DC that helps families and individuals succeed with early-education, after-school, nutrition, clothing and other healthy living support programs.
