The World Bank Articles of Agreement Over Time

March 17, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Event Navigation

Did you know the World Bank has three birthdays? The first was at Bretton Woods Conference in July 1944 where 44 nations came together to envision a peaceful and prosperous world after the Second World War, and where the World Bank’s Articles of Agreement were drafted. The second was the ratification of the Articles of Agreement 18 months later in December 1945, demonstrating the commitment of countries to the mission of the organization. The third was the first day of operations on June 25, 1946 when an international corps of professionals came together to create and implement policies and procedures of the newly formed organization. This panel discussion will look at the evolution of the Articles of Agreement over time, how they were formed, and how they have impacted the larger multilateral community.
