Dr. Chibber will discuss recent macro-economic development and provide an overview of Indian financial sector based on his recent publication. Mr. Joseph will provide an overview of the Indian capital markets and discuss investment opportunities and risks/rewards of portfolio investment in India.
Ajay Chhibber is Chief Economic Advisor, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Visiting Scholar at the Institute of International Economic Policy, George Washington University. He was previously Assistant Secretary General at the United Nations and Assistant Administrator, UNDP. Chhibber worked at the World Bank where he held senior positions managing programs in Turkey, Vietnam and Indonesia and the Pacific. He was Director of the World Bank’s World Development Report 1997 on the Role of the State. He has a Ph.D. from Stanford University and a master’s degree from the Delhi School of Economics, and advanced management certificates from Harvard and INSEAD.
Gijo Joseph is the President & CEO of Kotak Mahindra Inc (KM Inc), New York. He along with his team located in New York manage a diverse set of investors ranging from institutions, family offices and ultra-high net worth individuals; providing them products and platforms that invest into India. Apart from being in the Board of Kotak Mahindra Inc., he is also in the board of various international subsidiaries and affiliates of the group. Prior to joining Kotak group, Mr. Joseph worked with Mercantile Securities Ltd, a South India based financial services firm across various cities in India. Kotak Mahindra Inc is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kotak Mahindra Bank, a full-fledged retail commercial bank listed in Indian Capital Markets with a market capitalization in excess of US$ 30 billion making it the second largest bank in India in market capitalization.
