Speaker: Inder Sud
Note: The seminar can be see on Webex. See link below
The Economist Chapter will host a presentation by Inder Sud on his recent book “Reforming Foreign Aid: Reinvent the World Bank”.
Based on his experience in the Bank, Inder argues that aid has been successful in promoting development only in those few countries that have had the leadership committed to development. Successful countries are those who could utilize foreign aid to support their own, home-grown, national development.
Inder suggests that the World Bank. as the most significant and influential aid donor, can take a lead in setting a new path for delivering foreign aid, provided it undertakes serious reforms. Among his recommendations are: strengthening Bank’s governance; transparent, qualification-driven process for selection of president with proven leadership as the key criterion; increased autonomy for IEG; performance-based budget support instead of project lending; and a leaner Bank as the true knowledge bank.
