Recent Developments in Grid-Scale Energy Storage Technologies

June 20 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Event Navigation

Speaker: John Zahurancik, Chief Operation Officer of Fluence.  Fluence is a joint venture between Siemens and AES, which now has more than 10 years of experience creating, deploying and operating battery based energy storage technologies for the world’s leading utilities, power developers, and power users. Over this period, Fluence has helped open new markets to storage around the world- in countries such as the Philippines, Dominican Republic, and Chile.

Abstract The continuing development of energy storage technologies promises to bring about dramatic changes in the future cost of energy and, in particular, in the electric utilities’ business. It has the potential to enable both developed and developing countries to decarbonize their economies by integrating renewable energy technologies into their grids, reduce peak power demand, and make all forms of power generation more efficient. The potential market for energy storage is enormous, particularly battery-based energy storage. However, to date, the relatively high cost of storage has constrained its market growth.
The presentation will be followed by lunch in Private Dining Room G, MC-C1.
Please indicate by return email (i) whether you plan to attend the Presentation; and (ii) Lunch.
The cost of lunch will be $35 (w/o wine) and $43 (with wine). Please send checks to Eugene McCarthy, 8940 Walker Street, Fairfax, VA 22032
